A School Readiness Assessment can help when parents recognise many strengths in their child but remain unsure about how they will manage the learning, attention, communication, routines, emotional regulation and independence expected at school. It may also support families deciding whether their child should begin Prep or would benefit from another year of kindergarten. The assessment provides a clearer understanding of the child’s strengths, early learning and support needs. This helps families make informed decisions about school entry and identify practical support that can be put in place from the beginning. Our Student Clinic provides high-quality, comprehensive psychological assessments at a significantly reduced fee. Assessments are completed by advanced-stage postgraduate psychology students from the University of Melbourne, with close supervision and clinical oversight from experienced Advanced Psychology psychologists. Who completes the assessments? • Provisional psychologists undertaking the Master of Psychology (Educational and Developmental) program at the University of Melbourne • Provisional psychologists completing a professional placement before applying for general registration as a psychologist • Provisional psychologists selected by Advanced Psychology based on their experience, readiness and suitability for our assessment work How is quality maintained? • Each assessment pathway is carefully planned with the supervising psychologist • Assessment sessions and clinical decision-making are closely supervised • Findings, diagnostic conclusions and recommendations are reviewed with the supervising psychologist • Every written report is carefully reviewed and co-signed by the Clinic Director and supervisor, who is both a Clinical Psychologist and an Educational and Developmental Psychologist Student Clinic reports are held to the same clinical standard when reaching diagnostic conclusions and developing recommendations for support and reasonable adjustments. Families may join the waitlist for any of the assessment types offered by Advanced Psychology, including: • Cognitive and educational assessments • Specific Learning Disorder assessments • ADHD assessments • Autism assessments • Intellectual Disability assessments • School readiness assessments All referrals are reviewed to determine whether the assessment is suitable for the Student Clinic pathway. Reduced assessment fees Student Clinic assessments are generally priced approximately 40–50% below our standard assessment fees. The final fee depends on the individual assessment pathway and will be clearly confirmed before the family decides whether to proceed. A Functional Capacity Assessment provides a detailed understanding of how a person’s cognitive, developmental, psychological or neurodevelopmental needs affect their everyday functioning. Each assessment is individually planned around the person’s circumstances, current supports and the specific information required. The findings can help clarify support needs and provide evidence for an NDIS access request or plan reassessment, where applicable.
